Regression Modeling of Work Accidents in Underground Mines in Turkey

M.Kemal Özfırat

Abstract

Physical and other factors contributing to the occurrence of work accidents in mining sector in Turkey have been analyzed. Hazard analysis on the effects of the accident is very important to examine statistically in order to determine source of dangers. Thus, work accidents statistics should be analyzed carefully in order to prevent future occurrences.

According to statistics from the last decade in Turkey SGK mining, metals and construction industries are among the highest risk sectors. When we look at the accident statistics in mining across the country, especially in underground coal mine methane gas explosion, uncontrolled caving are the major accidents.

Statistical analysis in evaluation of work accidents plays an effective role in prevention of accidents. In this study, work accidents are evaluated according to production, number of accidents and type of accidents. Linear relations are found between the number of accidents and number of workers as well as production amounts.
