Abstract

A strain isolated from a hot spring has been applied to treat the oil wastewater. The strain was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa which had high lipase activity and decomposing potential. Various oil concentrations were studied in 24 to 120 hours for decomposing by this strain. The amount of the oil removal using this strain was 45 to 98 percent depending on the oil concentration. Oil removal percent for the concentration of 8.4 g/l was different from 50±2.5% in 24 hours to 90±2% in 92 hours. It was indicated that the maximal removal (90%) was achieved at pH around 7. When the wastewater pH was 5, the treatment process was inhibited.
