The importance of integrated pest management for sustainable agriculture

Abstract


By this study, integrated pest management (IPM) methods were analyzed through sustainable agriculture perspective against agricultural pests. Results of the studies suggested that use of IPM methods in agriculture has a lot of beneficial effects on human health, environmental pollution and ecological life. In IPM, it is essential that using the sequence of cultural, mechanical, biotechnological and biological control methods and finally chemical control methods. By these methods, especially biotechnical and biological control methods are applied effectively and economically to control several pests. In this manner, sustainable agriculture can be carried out by eliminating negative effects of most pesticides.
