End-of-Life Vehicles Recycling and The Route to Compliance With EU Directive Targets: The Case of Poland
Abstract
An increase in the quantity of ELVs has forced the countries of the EU to face this problem; consequently, the issue has been reflected in the enaction of new EU legislation. The European Parliament and Council Directive 2000/53/EC requires EU member states to meet recovery and recycling targets in 2006 of 80% and 85%, and of 85% and 95% by 2015 Required and achieved recovery and recycling targets for end-of-life vehicles in Poland in 2007, were discussed on the basis of information published by the Central Statistical Office of Poland and the Statistical Office of the European Communities. The data shows that, the required targets were not met.
Moreover, the purpose of this paper is to identify the potential barriers, which affect ELVs recovery and recycling as well as presents the route which could be useful to compliance ELVs recovery and recycling in Poland and in other similar developing countries.
