Investigations on Ornitofauna of Sarayköy District (Denizli/Turkey)

Abstract

This research was made to determine bird species of Sarayköy district which previously not studied, and in order to constitute a resource for future studies. Sarayköy district is 22 kilometers away from the center, in the Great Menderes river valley and situated in the western of Denizli city. During the study period from January 2011 to December 2012, a total of 162 bird species belonging to 45 families were observed in the area. According to the IUCN category 4 species are NT (Near Threatened), 2 species are VU (Vulnerable) and other species are LC (Least Concern). The status of these species is as follows: 49 residents (R), 29 winter migrants (WV), 39 summer migrants (SM) and 35 passage migrants (PM). Codes were used in international breeding birds in determining reproductive status. It was concluded that this area was probably used by a total of 93 actual and/or possible bird species for breeding purposes.
