The Investigation of the Removal of the Arsenic from Wastewaters by Using NiFe2O4 Nanoparticles Produced with Microwave Assisted Combustion Method
Abstract
In this study, nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) nanoparticles were synthesized with microwave assisted combustion method. The structural and chemical properties of the nickel ferrite nanoperticles were determined by using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM). The average particle diameters of the crystallite of the nickel ferrite nanoparticles were calculated using the Debye-Scherrer formula and the average particle size of the obtained nanoparticles found as 50 nm approximately. The micrographs of SEM have proved that all the nanoparticles were in the compositions of nano-crystallites. Later, these nanoparticles was used to remove the arsenic from synthetically prepared wastewaters by adsorption method. The concenrations of the arsenic in the aqueous medium were determined by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (Schimadzu AA6800) equipped with hydride vapour generator system (HVG). The results were shown that the NiFe2O4 nanoparticles for the removal of the arsenic from wastewaters are quite effective and these nanoparticles had removed 92 % of the arsenic.
