Abstract

In this study tire derived fuel (TDF) was pyrolyzed with different heating rates (5, 10 and 35 °C/min) for the same pyrolysis temperature (400°C). Distribution of congeners of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in solid, liquid and gas products of pyrolysis were analyzed to understand the effect of heating rates on the PCDDs/PCDFs.  XAD absorber (polystyrene–divinylbenzene polymer) was used as PCDDs/PCDFs absorber for liquid and gas products.Solid products were directly collected. After the sample collection, solid products and XAD traps treated with liquid and gas products were extracted according to the TS EN 1948-2. After extraction, the soluble fractions of the all products were pretreated according to TS EN 1948-2 method by using double column chromatography (Supelco Silica and Florisil based) before the analysis. PCDDs/PCDFs were analyzed by HP 6890 gas chromatograph/high-resolution mass spectrometer (GC/HRMS). According to analyses results, TDF pyrolysis may be useful thermal technology not only from the point of its valuable products but also its low PCDD/PCDF concentrations. The obtained data could be used as basic data prior to using gasification and pyrolysis processes for the treatment of waste tires in the future
