Abstract

The removal of Basic Yellow 2(BY2) from aqueous solution was studied using manure ash at different experimental conditions. The capacity of manure ash to adsorb BY2 was evaluated at different contact times (0-150 min.), pH values (3.0-8.0), initial dye concentrations (10-150 mg/L) and adsorbent dosage (0.1-4.0 g/L). Optimum BY2 adsorption was observed at pH 7.0. The adsorption capacities on manure ash increased with the increase of the concentration of dye. The adsorption capacity was recorded 1250 mg/g at 150 mg/L initial BY2 concentration and adsorbent dosage of 0.1 g/L. Results showed that BY2 adsorption on manure ash reached equilibrium in 150 min.

The linear Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R), Temkin, Harkins–Jura and Frumkin adsorption isotherm equations were applied to describe the equilibrium isotherms. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by the Langmuir model. In addition, the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models were used to determine the kinetic datas. The experimental datas were well fitted by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Manure ash was high removal efficiency for BY2 and could be effective adsorbents for removal of BY2 from wastewater.
