Abstract

It is important to make improvements in the die industry to achieve a stronger automative industry in Turkey, and one of the main problems in the die industry is productivity.  Production Planning is one of the main functions that should be applied to increase productivity. Besides scheduling, capacity planning and pricing are also important in the die industry. In order to perform successful production planning and scheduling, it is necessary to know the die processing times. Since each die has different properties, the manufactured product is complicated and the manufacturing process is quite long, it is a challenge to estimate processing times for die operations. This study aims to estimate the processing time for die operations.

In this study, statistical methods, more specifically regression analyses, are proposed to estimate die operation processing times. First, the technical parameters which potentially affect the processing time of the die manufacturing were determined and the data sets including dependent and independent variables were prepared. With these data sets, the prediction models were developed using regression analysis. Validation studies were also performed. After the processing time are estimated, further studies could be triggered for planning.
