The Burr XII-Geometric Distribution

Abstract


In this paper a lifetime distribution which is obtained by compounding Burr XII and geometric distributions, named Burr XII-geometric (BXIIG) distribution, is introduced. Several properties of the distribution such as density function, survival function, hazard function, mean lifetime, moments, order statistics, estimation by maximum likelihood and inference for large sample are derived. The BXIIG distribution has decreasing and unimodal hazard function. Furthermore, EM algorithm is also used to determine the maximum likelihood estimates of parameters. Applications to real data sets are given to show the exibility and potentiality of the proposed distribution.
