Abstract

In this research, an evaluation was made on dry bean genotypes to the facility of growing for green bean as a second crop in Konya-TURKEY ecological conditions. A total of seven (Akman-98, Doruk, Karacaşehir-90, Noyanbey-98, Sarıkız, Horoz, Sarnıç) widely grown dry bean genotypes were used as material and, the field trials were set up according to “Split - Split Plots Experimental Design” with three replications for two years (2010 and 2012). Sowings were made on 15th and 30th of June for both years. Some of the quality characteristics that are used for green bean were determined. According to the results, the values were ranged as following:, 80.37-118.97 mm for pod length, 8.73-12.44 mm for pod width, 1.18-2.26 mm for pod handle diameter, 2.00-5.00 for awn value, 1.00-2.00 for straightness of beak, 1.67-4.33 for breaking easiness of the pod.

This research will identify the feasibility of growing dry bean as a second crop to produce green bean, which will be discussed from the point of scientific perspective and current conditions. Finally, it can be concluded that there are new possibilities for application of the present results to bring an alternative for the producers and country economy.
