Effect of Initial pH for Phosphorus Removal by Electrocoagulation Method Using Iron Electrode

Abstract


The aim of this work is to optimize the efficiency of electroagulation process to phosphorus removal from synthetic wastewater. This study was an experimental work, which has been applied using electrocoagulation by iron plates. The effect of different parameters on performance was examined. Electrocoagulation for phosphorus removal based on evaluation of ph (1.5, 3, 5, 9, 11), initial concentration (5mg/l, 10 mg/l), current density (0.5 A , 0.8 A) was investigated to find best condition in phosphorus removal. The acryl plastic was designed in laboratory as reactor with the iron electrodes as cathode and anode.  The result showed that when pH increased from 1 to 3 the percentage of phosphorus removal increased, while pH increased from 3 to 11 the percentage of phosphorus removal decreased. While increasing the initial concentration of phosphorus the removal of phosphorus increased with time and with the increase in the current density the percentage of phosphorus removal increased.
