Abstract

Greywater reuse is an attractive alternative to the sustainable management of water especially for water scarcity situations. In this study, applicability of ferrate (VI) for grey water treatment was investigated. For this purpose, greywater samples from TUBITAK public housing were collected and oxidised by ferrate (VI) using standard jar test procedure. Optimum conditions for greywater treatment were determined by experimental results with different ferrate (VI) doses and pH according to removal efficiencies. Relatively low ferrate (VI) doses (46.7-60 mg/L) and pH 7 showed the best performance. The quality of treated greywater was found to be suitable for reuse according to EPA’s standards.
