Student Teacher's Attitudes Towards Nature and The Environment

Abstract


Today to cope with the changing environmental conditions and the environmental problems, countries separate their budgets in to the solving these problems. But; the easiest way is that growing up sensible generation about environmental problems. Especially environmental education has an important role in order to realize this mission and has a significant importance in terms of preventing environmental problems and providing a healthy and livable environment. The purpose of the present study is to figure out the environmental attitudes of student teachers. With respect to this purpose, the present study is attempted to find answers whether there is a relationship between the attitudes of the students and other independent variables such as gender, academic success levels, educational backgrounds of the fathers and mothers, and economic conditions of the parents. For this study a sample of 180 student teachers was used. Participants included the sophomore students of Faculty of Education at Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University in Ağrı, in Turkey. For the purpose of this study, a survey composed of two sections was given to sophomore students. In the first section of the survey, students were asked about demographic characteristics; in the second part they were given a scale to measure their attitudes toward nature and environment. The data of the study is gathered through a questionnaire entitled “Environment Attitude Questionnaire” which was developed by the researcher. In order to understand the gathered data, besides the frequencies, percentages, and mean scores of the variables, independent t-test scores and ANOVA scores are used in the data analysis process.
