Abstract

A novel, simple, rapid and sensitive determination method for reactive red 83 textile dye was developed by applying cloud point extraction technique. For this procedure Triton X-114 was used as extraction agent and optimal analytical conditions such as pH, temperature, surfactant concentration and sample volume, etc. were performed. Under optimum conditions some anions, cations and main dyes was also studied to investigate the interference effect of foreign ions on the extraction. Detection limit of the method (N=21) was calculated for reactive red 83 dye as 5.0 µg/L. The preconcentration factor was found as 25. Dynamic range was linear for dye concentration of between 0.2 and 30 µg/mL. The relative standard deviation of the procedure was found less than % 7. The determination of reactive red 83 levels in samples was performed by using spectrophotometry at 501 nm. Developed cloud point extraction procedure was successfully applied to determine trace levels of reactive red 83 in tap, waste water samples from the textile and leather factories by the method of standard addition.
