The Effect of the pH of the Solution in the Boron Removal using Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC) Coagulant with Chemical Coagulation Method

Abstract


Boron elements and compounds cause harmful effects to human being and environment when they exist at high concentration in water and soil. For this reason, it is necessary to have boron and its compounds within the allowed amount of concentrations for the environment.

 

This study reports the effect of the initial solution pH values for boron removal from wastewater with chemical coagulation method by using PACl as coagulant agent. It is observed that the initial pH of the solution is one of the most important parameters which affect this process. During experiments was observed that the initial pH value of the solution decreased continually. This decrease associated with increase or decrease in the amount of coagulant matter added to solution. The change in the output pH value of the solution which has different initial pH value was investigated. Accordingly, it is observed that the boron removal efficiency is the highest when the different coagulant dosages were applied and the last pH’s of solution were values between 7-9. The reason of this, the pH of Al(OH)3 formation is high in values between 6,0-8,5. Polyaluminium chloride has been observed that more than 78% boron removal can be achieved from the synthetically prepared wastewater.
