Abstract

In this study; removal of Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solutions  by adsorption onto sugar beet bagasse, supplied from Eskisehir Sugar Factory, has been investigated. In the experimental studies, the effect of parameters such as pH, temperature, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration on (Cr(VI)) removal were observed and adsorption isotherm studies were made. In the isotherm studies, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were applied and it was determined that the experimental data confirmed to Langmuir isotherm model. Adsorption capacity was determined as 0,749 mg/g for sugar beet bagasse.   Thermodynamics parameters were also determined. The positive values of ΔH0 change indicate that adsorption is endothermic. The positive ΔG0 values indicated that adsorption was nonspontaneous thermodynamically. The positive ΔS0 values indicated that the randomness increase. Then sugar beat bagasse was modified with hydrochloric acid, acetic acid and heat, and the effects of modification on Cr(VI) adsorption has been studied. It was determined that HCl and heat modification of the bagasse increased the Cr(VI) removal.
