Factors affecting milk production in Eregli District of Konya in Turkey

Abstract


The present study aims to calculate milk production cost and relevant economic limitations over the dairy producers both organized and non-organized under a union within the Eregli District in Konya. The basic data has been obtained from voluntary 50 distinct dairy farms which were selected randomly through the face to face survey method, among which there are both union members and individual producers. While milk production cost determined for the union members is 0.65 TL/kg, it is determined as 0.67 TL/kg for non-members. In terms of general expense items, it was determined that the highest cost unit was the cost of feed. The results of the Cobb-Douglas analysis function have considerably affected the milk production of the member producers of the Eregli Union. It was concluded that Eregli dairy farmers must be organized and supported in this regard so that they could to maintain dairy cattle business.
