Abstract

Density currents (or gravity currents) have become one of the favorite topics in scientific researches. One of important parts of the density currents behavior that needs to be analyzed is their interaction with naturally occurring topography or engineering structures. In this investigation, the 3-D continuous density current over bottom-mounted square cylinder has been studied numerically using LES method. The bottom surface of the straight channel is smooth and has 1% slope. Flow behaviors of density current propagating over obstacles are predicted and analyzed. In addition, the effects of obstacles on velocity and concentration profiles have been studied.
